• Ambry Genetics is Founded

Ambry is built by scientists, genetic counselors and physicians. With a deep commitment to community and ethics, Ambry is a trusted resource for clinicians, and continues to blaze the trail in the uncharted territories of genetic testing.

  • CFTR Full Gene Test Created

With a 99% detection rate, this test puts Ambry on the map and links the Dunlop brothers with the CF community.

  • Inspiration Strikes

Charles and James Dunlop find an article in New England Journal of Medicine, "A Controlled Trial of Long-Term Inhaled Hypertonic Saline in Patients with Cystic Fibrosis". This article provided scientific support that ocean water provides natural therapy for people with CF, and inspired creation of the Mauli Ola Foundation.

  • The First Surf Experience Day

Kids with CF joined Jamie O'Brien and other surfers in Newport Beach, CA for a one-on-one lesson. Surfline posted an article about the event, and was well received by the surf community.

  • Mauli Ola is Born

After the huge response from the Surfline article, James and Charlie went to Hawaii to speak with a life long waterman of the north shore, Mick O'Brien. This led to a conversation with Tom Stone who came up with the name Mauli Ola. With the support of Eddie Rothman, Kala Alexander, Tom Stone, Mick O'Brien, and the great watermen of Hawaii, Mauli Ola was born.

  • Surfer Poll Agent of Change

"It is a true honor to receive the Agent of Change Award and be recognized by the surfing community for the hard work of our staff and volunteers," said President and CEO James Dunlop. "Although cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common fatal genetic disease in the United States, it is sometimes referred to as the "lost disease" because it effects a relatively small population compared to diseases such as cancer or autism. The healing properties of the ocean have a positive effect on everyone, but a profound effect on CF patients. Surfing as a natural treatment for CF has raised significant awareness about this disease because of massive support from the Surf industry."

  • Battle for the Breasts

A first of its kind awareness campaign presented by Ambry Genetics and powered by Surfline. We pitted the top 16 women surfers from the Association of Surfing Professionals (now WSL) against each other to raise awareness for early detection in the fight against breast cancer. In the end $100,000 worth of diagnostic testing was donated by Ambry Genetics directly to breast cancer clinics.

  • Mauli Ola Spreads its Wings

On March 4, 2015 at Snapper Rocks, during the first lay day of the 2015 Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, World Surf League athletes and Mauli Ola ambassadors came together to take a group of local children with cystic fibrosis (CF) surfing as part of Mauli Ola's Surf Experience Days. MOF is making it's mission to expand patient support to more and more people around the world.
